Awards Policy

1. Purpose

The Awards Policy of Pediatric Interventional Pulmonology (hereafter referred to as "the Journal") aims to:

  • Recognize Excellence: Acknowledge outstanding contributions in research, clinical practice, and service within the field of pediatric interventional pulmonology.
  • Encourage Quality: Motivate authors, reviewers, and editorial board members to maintain high standards of excellence.
  • Promote Engagement: Foster a culture of continuous improvement and active participation among the Journal’s stakeholders.
  • Enhance Reputation: Strengthen the Journal’s standing as a leading publication by highlighting exemplary work and contributions.

2. Types of Awards

The Journal will present the following awards annually:

A. Best Original Research Article

  • Description: Awarded to the most impactful and well-conducted original research article published in the Journal within the calendar year.
  • Purpose: To recognize significant advancements and contributions to the field through original research.

B. Best Review Article

  • Description: Awarded to the highest-quality review article that provides comprehensive insights and synthesis of existing literature in pediatric interventional pulmonology.
  • Purpose: To honor authors who effectively summarize and evaluate current knowledge, identifying gaps and future research directions.

C. Outstanding Reviewer Award

  • Description: Awarded to reviewers who have demonstrated exceptional diligence, thoroughness, and constructive feedback in the peer-review process.
  • Purpose: To appreciate the critical role of reviewers in maintaining the Journal’s academic integrity and quality.

D. Editorial Excellence Award

  • Description: Awarded to editorial board members who have shown exemplary leadership, commitment, and contributions to the Journal’s development and success.
  • Purpose: To acknowledge the dedication and efforts of editors in steering the Journal towards excellence.

E. Young Investigator Award

  • Description: Awarded to a promising early-career researcher or clinician who has made significant contributions to the field through innovative research or clinical practice.
  • Purpose: To encourage and support emerging talent in pediatric interventional pulmonology.

3. Eligibility Criteria

A. Best Original Research Article

  • Must be an original research article published in the Journal within the specified calendar year.
  • Must demonstrate methodological rigor, significant findings, and relevance to the field.

B. Best Review Article

  • Must be a review article published in the Journal within the specified calendar year.
  • Must provide comprehensive coverage, critical analysis, and insightful synthesis of existing research.

C. Outstanding Reviewer Award

  • Must have completed a minimum of five peer reviews for the Journal within the specified calendar year.
  • Reviews must be thorough, timely, and constructive, contributing to the improvement of submitted manuscripts.

D. Editorial Excellence Award

  • Must be a current member of the Journal’s editorial board.
  • Must have demonstrated exceptional service, leadership, and contributions to the Journal’s growth and reputation.

E. Young Investigator Award

  • Must be within seven years of completing their highest degree (e.g., Ph.D., M.D.).
  • Must have published at least one original research or review article in the Journal.
  • Must demonstrate potential for future significant contributions to the field.

4. Selection Process

A. Nominations

  • Self-Nomination: Individuals can nominate themselves by submitting a detailed application outlining their achievements and contributions.
  • Peer Nomination: Members of the editorial board, authors, and reviewers can nominate eligible candidates by providing supporting documentation and endorsements.

B. Review Committee

  • The Awards Committee will consist of senior members of the editorial board.
  • The Committee is responsible for overseeing the selection process, ensuring fairness and transparency.

C. Evaluation Criteria

  • Impact: The significance and influence of the contribution on the field.
  • Innovation: The originality and creativity demonstrated in the work.
  • Quality: The methodological rigor, clarity, and excellence in execution.
  • Relevance: The pertinence of the work to current challenges and advancements in pediatric interventional pulmonology.

D. Selection and Announcement

  • The Awards Committee will review all nominations and select winners based on the evaluation criteria.
  • Winners will be announced during the Journal’s annual meeting or a designated special event.
  • Award recipients will be notified via email and officially recognized in a dedicated section of the Journal’s website and publications.

5. Award Recognition and Benefits

A. Best Original Research Article & Best Review Article

  • Certificate of Achievement: Official recognition from the Journal.
  • Monetary Prize:  A cash award or research grant to support future work.
  • Publication Feature: Highlighted article and author profile on the Journal’s website and social media platforms.

B. Outstanding Reviewer Award

  • Certificate of Appreciation: Official recognition from the Journal.

C. Editorial Excellence Award

  • Honorary Title: Public acknowledgment of exceptional service.
  • Certificate of Excellence: Official recognition from the Journal.
  • Professional Development Opportunities: Sponsored attendance to international conferences or workshops.

D. Young Investigator Award

  • Monetary Prize:  A cash award or research grant to support future work.
  • Publication Feature: Highlighted profile and work on the Journal’s platforms.

6. Award Presentation

  • Annual Awards Ceremony: Hosted during the Journal’s annual meeting or a special event, featuring presentations from distinguished guests and award recipients.
  • Publication of Winners: Detailed profiles and interviews with award recipients published in a dedicated section of the Journal’s issues and online platforms.

7. Policies and Procedures

A. Confidentiality

  • All nominations and evaluations will be conducted with strict confidentiality to protect the privacy of candidates and ensure unbiased selection.

B. Conflict of Interest

  • Committee members must disclose any potential conflicts of interest and recuse themselves from evaluating related nominations to maintain the integrity of the selection process.

C. Appeals Process

  • Award recipients and nominees have the right to appeal decisions by submitting a formal request to the Awards Committee.
  • The Committee will review appeals transparently and provide a final decision within 30 days.

D. Non-Discrimination

  • The Awards Policy adheres to principles of equality and non-discrimination, ensuring that all eligible candidates have an equal opportunity to be recognized regardless of gender, race, ethnicity, nationality, age, or other protected characteristics.

10. Review and Revision

  • The Awards Policy will be reviewed annually by the Awards Committee to ensure its relevance, effectiveness, and alignment with the Journal’s objectives.
  • Revisions will be made as necessary, with updates communicated to all stakeholders in a timely manner.

11. Ineligibility Criteria

To uphold the integrity and fairness of the Pediatric Interventional Pulmonology Awards, certain individuals and situations are deemed ineligible for nomination. The following criteria outline who cannot be nominated for any of the awards presented by the Journal:

A. Current Editorial Board Members and Staff

  • Reason: To prevent conflicts of interest and ensure unbiased selection, current members of the Journal’s editorial board, including the Editor-in-Chief, Deputy Editors, and other editorial staff, are ineligible for nomination except for the Editorial Excellence Award.

B. Immediate Family Members of Editorial Board Members

  • Reason: To avoid any perceived favoritism or bias, immediate family members (spouses, siblings, children) of current editorial board members are ineligible for nomination.

C. Individuals with Conflicts of Interest

  • Reason: Any individual who has a financial, professional, or personal interest that could influence the impartiality of the nomination or selection process is ineligible for nomination.

D. Individuals Accused of Misconduct

  • Reason: To maintain the Journal’s reputation and uphold ethical standards, individuals who are currently under investigation or have been found guilty of academic or professional misconduct are ineligible for nomination.
  • Scope: Applies to all forms of misconduct, including plagiarism, data fabrication, and unethical research practices.

J. Legal and Regulatory Restrictions

  • Reason: Compliance with legal and regulatory standards is paramount. Individuals prohibited by law from receiving such recognitions are ineligible.
  • Scope: Applies to individuals under legal restrictions, sanctions, or prohibitions that prevent them from accepting awards.
